Virginia Primary Elections

The Primary Elections listed below will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2017. The purpose of these elections is to nominate political party candidates to be on the ballot in the November General Election for the offices shown. The deadline to register to vote is Monday, May 22, 2017.

Democratic Party: Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Member, House of Delegates, 68th District, Member, House of Delegates, 70th District, Sheriff, Treasurer
Republic Party: Governor, Lieutenant Governor

Voters may participate in either the Democratic Party Primary or the Republican Party Primary, but may not participate in both primaries. Persons with DMV issued ID can register to vote, update their registration or apply for an absentee balllot online and paperlessly at www.elections.virginia.gov.

Register in person at your respective county/city Voter Registration office. Applications are also in all city post offices, libraries, and DMV. The Office of the General Registrar will mail applications upon request. Voter registration applications must either be postmarked or in the Office of the General Registrar by 5pm on the deadline date.

The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot through the mail for this election is Tuesday June 6, 2017. The deadline to apply for and vote an absentee ballot in person is 5:00pm, Saturday, June 10, 2017, except in the case of certain emergencies. The Office of the General Registrar will be open for absentee voting during regular business hours, and on Saturday, June 10, 2017. Check your respective locality for office hours.
